Doom is a great character, he's the next best thing to Storm besides herself, IMO. Doom can runaway, keepaway, rushdown and being an annoying pest all in one. Doom's AAA assist, is also a key factor in which he is picked, because his assist is used in a lot of traps, including the Strider/Doom trap, Dhalsim/Doom trap, and Sentinel/Doom lockdown. Doom can trap himself, which makes him a very useful person for building meter and just reseting the match in your favor. Doom's air combos and ground combos are also very powerful and can really hurt someone if they're not careful, he also has an infinite, which makes him very, very dangerous as a character himself. Although, this list of positive sides doesn't come without it's bad things, all of Doom's supers, if they are blocked, put him in a VERY vulnerable spot, and if you're fighting Cable, this will be very bad. Even Doom's Electric Cage, the one with the least lag on it, can be punished very quickly by a Cable player. Doom is also a slow ass guy too, his dash, air or ground is all that wonderful to use, his flight is horrid as it is very slow in moving around and can put you at risk to a lot of things if you're not careful. All in all, Doom is a very good character to use, he's very good on his own, he chips like a madman (A Roundhouse Molecular Shield will chip off 5% if all hits connect) and he's just a very reliable character. Strategies Now Doom can be played 3 ways, he can runaway and keepaway with his j.HP and superjumping Photon Shots and rushdown with his crouching ground chains into air combos. Now, a key thing to note is that Doom isn't all that great when he's on the ground, he has few ground chains to work with and, like Magneto does most of his damage while in the air. You want to pace yourself with the character your fighting, if it's Cable, you want to play a VERY careful game, try to stay away from throwing out random supers, going for launchers after missed chains, just things that leave you vulnerable to punishment by AHVBs, otherwise, try to rush him down, use your air dash to get around him, chip at him slowly and don't let him get you into the corner, unless you can superjump out or alpha counter into a safe character, if it's Magneto, you want to play a good keepaway game, Magneto can't do anything if it's raining Photon Shots. Doom is a thinking character, mold your play style around the character you're fighting, this will result in a much more better fight and puts you on the offense. -Air Game -Superjump and throwing Photon Shots is probably one of Doom's best strategies, it gets annoying, chips well, can be punished by few characters and can really throw your opponent off. -His j.HK can be a very useful way to get around, use j.dHK to get in at a steeper angle, it cancels into air dashes and cancels flight. -If you've got Blackheart AAA as a member, trap people with j.HPs while calling Blackheart AAA at the same time, hard to get out of and builds some good meter. -Doom can triangle jump, you have to wait till the last second to attack, best to attack with j.LK, j.LP or j.LK, j.LK chain, very useful to use. -Ground Game Not much ground game for Doom, he's like Magneto, better in the air than dead on the ground. But if you have Sentinel Ground, he can really help for dashing in with Doom's crouching chains. Guard Break Doom has very simple guard breaks, when the person comes in either j.LP, land, kick launcher to air combo or, j.LP, wait for block to end and Photon Array. I tend to use the first one since you do more damage in the air combo and can end it with the super, so, I suggest using that more than the other one. Combos 1. d.c.LK, c.LK (or c.LP, c.LP), c.HP, sj.LP, sj.LK, sj.LP, sj.LK, air dash UF XX Photon Array (Instead of dashing UF, press, HP, but don't wait for the gun to come out, after you press it, cancel it into the super) 2. d.c.LK, c.LK (or c.LP, c.LP), c.HP, sj.LP, sj.LK, sj.LP, sj.LK, air dash DF, P throw (Photon Array while opponent falls past you, only works in corner) 3. d.c.LK, c.LK (or c.LP, c.LP) XX Electric Cage 4. d.c.LK, c.LK, c.HK, HK Molecular Shield XX Photon Array (only works if opponent doesn't roll) Infinite Doom's infinite is pretty simple, it's easy to setup and doesn't require really hard buttons: Kick launcher, sj.LK, sj.LK, sj.HK, fly, sj.LK, sj.LK, sj.HK, fly sj.LK, sj.LK, sj.HK, sj.LK, sj.HK, fly, sj.LK, sj.HK, fly, repeat sj.LK, sj.HK part. Again, this is a short guide but like I said in the beginning mold your play style against your opponent and you should be able to play Doom pretty well. Enjoy. __________________ GeekBoy: No soup for you! Oh and i thought his air photon array super had the least amount of lag after it..Nice work on the guide though i never knew you could just do the gun instead of the uf ad, for some reason i have problems air dashing with doom. __________________ Mag/Cable/Psy -------------- Spiral/Cable/Sent [Avatar created by me!] IP: Logged DemiDeviMatt Chinese Gaming Pride Posts: 624 Registered: Apr 2001 Location: Culver City,California Posted: July 28th, 2001 07:38 AM good guide despite how short it is...hopefully this will improve my doom skillz w/ my team which is BH and capcom and thanks for taking my suggestion in making a doom guide...whos next?...i think u should make a capcom guide ^_^...j/k but great woork on this guide we shall see if it helps as much as ur IM one did for me ^_^! __________________ CvS2+MasStick=My personal Arcade ^_^ DONT FUCKING FORGET I AM STILL BEATMANIX MEGA MAN MASTER! All he has is one of the highest priority Jabs in the game(and it can lead to Launch, Photon air combo...). You know, that's just about all he has. As for combos. Doom's infinite is good and practical. And for Electric Cage combos, Chain into S. RH xx Plasma Beam xx Electric Cage gets you the best damage. And to add another simple Photon combo(and the best one to use if you want to DHC), Launch, SJ. LK, MK, half second delay, Photon Array. Magneto simply tears up Doom. He just can't deal with his speed. Most of this I've already learned, but for all the aspiring Doom players, this is priceless. Better than anything you could get by asking about a character on the forums these days. Spiral won't fit? Isn't there some way to compensate? ... ...on his SIGNATURE, guys. __________________ "It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger one to laugh at him." - Jack Handy Last edited by CaptainCanada on July 29th, 2001 at 01:21 AM IP: Logged ghouki gh = initials Posts: 682 Registered: May 2001 Location: San Francisco, CA Posted: July 29th, 2001 01:38 AM Thanks Geekboy, you outdo yourself everytime.
